Internet penetration is increasing at a rapid rate, in fact there are more than 4 billion internet users in the world 1.

Businesses have seen that consumers have moved online and with the change in buying behavior, more businesses are launching their websites.

1. Meta Title

Optimal length of Meta Title is 50-60 characters, anything exceeding this limit will be truncated and would not be shown in the results.


Try to include your keyword in the Meta Title but don’t over use it.


2. Meta Description

Meta Description is the short summary of your page which is read by search engine robot and shown in the search results. This summary is very important as it is the second thing which a user will read before they click on the link.

According to latest update, optimal length of Meta Description is ~300 characters. Try to keep the summary in this limit, extra characters will be truncated.


Try to use natural language and include the main keyword.

Do not use the keyword more than once unless necessary.


3. Permalink URL

It is the url of the web page and is also known as “slug”. It plays an important part in the on-page seo of your website. This is also shown in the search result pages where your website appears.

Images have an important role in beautifying a web page. While trying to add images we want them to be high quality. But these high-quality images are generally heavy and take time to load.

10. 404 Error Handling

404 is an error code which is received when you try to access a page which is not present. People may try to access pages with some spelling mistake in the page url, this will result in your server replying back with 404 error.

Instead of showing the error code page, create a page which will show whenever error 404 occurs.


11. Canonical Issue

This is one of the most important on-page seo factors present. Adding canonical tag in your page tells the search engine that this page is the master copy of a page.

This also prevents any problems which can be caused by identical or duplicate content which may appear on multiple URLs.


12. XML Sitemap

This on-page seo factor is also one of the latest seo trends. If you want to get your website listed in first page of Google, then your site must load within 3 seconds.

You need to keep check on the page load time of your website. This also helps when someone access your website from mobile.

Try to include your keywords in headings, but don’t over-stuff them.


16. Broken Links

Broken Links are the url ‘s which you’ve included in your website but would lead to a page which doesn’t exist. It may happen that you’re linking/referring to another domain who may have taken that page down, this will lead to creation of a broken link.

Search engines do not like this, their algorithms consider that you’re trying to fool users hence a bad on-page seo practice.

When people share your content across their social channels, search engines consider this as a positive signal and gives you preference in their ranking algorithm.
